Because the house has only recently opened to public access, we have not been able to visit to verify everything, so you should take this into account when using this page.
We believe we have built a reasonably accurate interpretation and further changes will be made as more information becomes available.

This pillar
probably originally supported a stone basin (labrum) and was later reused as a
support for a tabletop.

2. In the centre of the garden is a fluted pillar
with a large piece of marble slab on top.
At a higher level, there is a large
open space, probably a garden, with some amphorae still in situ (at the time of
discovery).
At the centre of the garden emerged a
fluted pillar, with a large piece of marble slab, the pillar probably
originally supported a stone basin (labrum) but was later reused as a support for
a tabletop.
Some tree roots have been brought into
evidence through the plaster cast technique.
The garden is bordered to the east by the Casa della Soffitta, to the west by the street recently named the Vicolo dei Balconi (street of the balconies), while to the north is bordered by a Portico with at least three columns and, at the rear, some pillars, with traces of fresco.
A un
livello superiore, c'è un grande spazio aperto, probabilmente un giardino, con
alcune anfore ancora in situ (al momento della scoperta).
Al centro del giardino emerse un pilastro
scanalato, con un grande pezzo di lastra di marmo, il pilastro probabilmente
originariamente sosteneva un bacino di pietra (labrum) ma fu successivamente
riutilizzato come supporto per un tavolo.
Alcune radici degli alberi sono state messe in
evidenza attraverso la tecnica del calco in gesso.
Il giardino è delimitato a est dalla Casa della
Soffitta, a ovest dalla strada recentemente chiamata il Vicolo dei Balconi,
mentre a nord è delimitato da un Portico con almeno tre colonne e, sul lato
dietro, alcuni pilastri, con tracce di affresco.

Garden 2. It was possible to excavate all the flower bed boundaries and make
casts of the roots of the plants which had been planted there. The PAP
palaeobotanists have gathered all the evidence to study the garden and
understand what had been planted in it, as well as how it had been laid out and
therefore it will be possible to restore it in a philologically correct manner.

possibile scavare tutti le delimitazioni in aiuole fare di calchi delle radici
delle piante di vi erano piantate e quindi i paleobotanici del PAP hanno recuperato
tutta la documentazione per studiare il giardino capire che cosa era piantato
in questo giardino come era articolato e quindi ci sarà la possibilità di ripristinarlo
in maniera filologicamente corretta.

Two scurrilous graffiti were found inscribed on the south wall of the entrance, immediately outside of the door of the house –
“Leporis fellas”
and
“Lucius cunnilingus”

The housing complex had its main
access from the Vicolo dei Balconi, through a monumental doorway with two square capitals and a masonry
cornice.
Il complesso
abitativo aveva il suo accesso principale dal vicolo dei Balconi, attraverso
una porta monumentalizzata da due capitelli “a dado” e da una cornice in
muratura.

The housing complex had its main access from the Vicolo dei
Balconi, through a monumental door with two square capitals, and a masonry cornice;
the narrow entrance led to an atrium (room 5), in turn communicating with a
portico (room 10) opening onto the garden and supported by masonry columns,
resting on a plinth decorated with frescoes on a black background depicting
flowering plants.

Il complesso
abitativo aveva il suo accesso principale dal vicolo dei Balconi, attraverso
una porta monumentalizzata da due capitelli “a dado” e da una cornice in
muratura; lo stretto ingresso immetteva in un atrio (ambiente 5), a sua volta comunicante con un
portico (ambiente 10) aperto sul giardino e
sostenuto da colonne in muratura, poggianti su una zoccolatura decorata da
affreschi su fondo nero raffiguranti piante fiorite.

Room 1, looking
towards the east wall. Both the
portico and the rooms that faced it have a rich fresco decoration.
In
particular, in this room in the middle of one wall (the south wall, on right)
is a painted architectural decoration, an idyllic-sacral picture, with cult
scenes in a woodland environment. Similar paintings, but in a worse state of
preservation, decorated two more walls of the same room.
Ambiente 1, vista sulla parete est. Sia il portico, sia le stanze che vi si
affacciavano, presentano una ricca decorazione ad affresco. In particolare, una
stanza ha restituito, al centro di una parete con finta decorazione
architettonica, un quadretto idillico-sacrale, con scene di culto in un
ambiente boschivo. Quadretti analoghi, ma in peggiori condizioni di
conservazione, decoravano altre due pareti della stessa stanza.
